NOMADS TENT (Closes 1 December 2008)
The Nomad’s Tent, tucked away behind St Leonard’s, has been an Edinburgh institution for more than a quarter of a century. Rufus Reade began by selling antique Turkish kilims (flatweaves) but soon cast his net wider, and now The Nomad’s Tent is a well-established gallery space as well as a thriving and surprisingly diverse shop. The opening nights of their elaborately-mounted selling exhibitions are legendary – with live music, drink and delicacies from around the world. Rufus and his small team collect interesting and authentic things, trading fairly with their partners. Tribal rugs, kilims, nomadic bags and runners are piled high, but there is also a large selection of reasonably priced modern and antique jewellery, as well as furniture, clothing, one-off curiosities, sculpture and objects d’art sourced in Iran, India, Turkey and elsewhere. So take a trip off the beaten path and discover the Nomad’s tent…you’ll be glad you did!
The Nomads Tent is giving away 3 prizes of gift vouchers, worth £500, £200 and £100. Just answer the following question
What is a kilim?
A) a flatweave B) a flying carpet C) a nomad’s tent
Usual terms apply. Vouchers cannot be used on sale goods and are valid for 6 months. No cash alternative is available and the prize is non-transferable
